Day 4 - Prayer & Fasting - Patience

Today's Scripture Passage: Psalm 37:7-9

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. 9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

Today's Scripture Message:

Reaction is always a first responder if emotions are left to their own accord.  Patience is acting after consideration, even if for a moment, take the time to assess the situation, step away to get a full view and disallow anyone or anything to force you to move blindly.  Your course is directed and carefully orchestrated, consult your guide and press on in knowledge.

Prayer for the day:
Father, in all that I do as life happens, direct me towards calm clarity. Provide patience and understanding that I do as directed in a manner honoring you.   You state in your word “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” (1 Corinthians 14:33 ) and I faithfully cling to the premise that no matter what, in all I experience, I will seek you first, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold.  For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you.  So in like manner, you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs.”
~Leonardo da Vinci

Goal for the Day:
Take a breather, think it through, move in patience and clarity.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 4:

Today we're fasting from the thought that says, "Things might not get better. They seem to be getting worse!" This thinking is not an option today or EVER! No matter how bad things have gotten financially or in ANY AREA OF YOUR LIFE, God has promised that they will get better.

Let’s change it today:

1.       The path of the righteous gets brighter and brighter until the full day (Proverbs 4:18).

2.      God is the God of increase, not decrease. 1 Corinthians 3:6 says, “One plants, another waters, BUT GOD GIVES THE INCREASE.”

3.      You have a covenant of increase from God. Psalm 115:14 says “May the Lord give you increase”. Deuteronomy 1:11 says, “May the Lord..increase you a thousand times and bless you as He has promised.”

4.      Eliminate the ‘half empty glass’ mentality. In fact, don’t accept it half full either! Think: My cup runs over! (Psalm 23:4)

5.      Your life is going to end up better than it started! Ecclesiastes 7:8 says, "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning." Haggai 2:9 says, "The latter days of this house shall be greater than the former."

6.      Your life is going to end up better than it started! Ecclesiastes 7:8 says, "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning." Haggai 2:9 says, "The latter days of this house shall be greater than the former."

THINK IT & SAY IT:
No matter what is happening in this world, things are getting better and better for me! God has made me righteous through His blood; therefore, my path is getting brighter and brighter every day. My inner man is being renewed, day by day. I have a covenant of increase and God is increasing me, and all that I have, more and more.  I expect the best today. He has saved the best for last and therefore I expect my coming days to be better than my past days, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from
St. Michael of Old Town

Saturday after Ash Wednesday
March 12, 2011

“You shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails.” Isaiah 58:11b
When my children were younger, we spent a lot of time gardening together.  I felt it was important for them to understand our relationship with nature, where food came from, how it grew, how much care it took to produce enough to feed our family.

When my youngest niece was baptized, my youngest daughter, Maggie, was 5. the day before, she and I had been busy weeding and watering in our garden. As the priest began to pour the water and say the words, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” there was an insistent tugging on my skirt from Maggie.  “Shh!” I said, “what is it?”

“Father is going to make Colleen GROW” Maggie said with big eyes and wonderment in her voice. “Just like our garden! Will she have to feed people, too?”

I was amazed and touched at how the simple act of pouring water conveyed such a deep meaning at a rudimentary level to my small child of 5 years. I have thought often about how all of us who are baptized are “watered” to grow. The grace we are given at Baptism is “like a spring whose water never fails.” My niece has been a remarkable friend to many, providing service in various ways throughout her school years.  Maggie’s observation has proven to be true: her cousin grew in spiritual grace and continues to carry out her vocation to be a servant for others.
