Day 18 - Prayer & Fasting - Doubt

Today's Scripture Passage: John 16:33

33"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Today's Scripture Message:

Quiet your spirit so you can hear your instruction.  Be resilient knowing you are in capable hands.  Refuse to fall short of the promises given you and exercise your faith daily strengthening it to the impenetrable force it is intended to be.  No matter what the circumstance, calm your thoughts until clarity is granted.  You can not react more than you choose to act.  Doing so deems you powerless to circumstances and that is not your witness as a Christian. Things will always happen around you it is the choices you make behind the stimulus of the circumstance that moves you forward or holds you back. Be at peace and move courageously, you control your decisions and your course as they are guided by the spirit of the promises of the word of our Father through Jesus Christ, know your deliverance is inevitable.

Prayer for the day:
Father the more I seek you, the more I discover. I understand my path is not a road of ease, but in you, knowing you are ever with me, I find peace and certain victory. All glory, honor, thanks and praise to you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for  different ways or truer answers.”
~Unknown

Goal for the Day:
Refuse to allow worry in.  See past any negativity to the heart of the matter and start there working on the solution.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 18:

Today we’re fasting from excuses! True success will never come to the person who makes excuses.  We must eliminate excuse-making mentalities such as: “I can’t do it without...”, “I don’t have enough resources...”, “If I only had...” Today we are going to eliminate excuse-making mentalities..

Let’s change it today:

1.       Refuse to excuse mediocrity. 1 Thessalonians 4:1 says “...Excel still more...” Don’t give in to the temptation to settle for where you’re at. Wherever you’re at in life, right now—thank God; and press forward for more of what He has for you. (Philippians 3:13-14)

2.      Refuse to excuse lack and failure in your life saying that you were born on the wrong side of the tracks or you’re limited by your upbringing.  You may have been born on the wrong side of the tracks, but you're not bound to stay there.  Cross the tracks NOW. (Romans 8:37).

3.      Refuse to excuse unforgiveness. We sometimes think, “you just don't know what they did to me”, but the truth is: God knows what WE did to HIM and He still forgives us. Let it go.

4.      Redirect your effort and work. It takes EFFORT to come up with excuses. If we would redirect the same energy, and instead MAKE a WAY, doors would open. John 14:6 says Jesus is the WAY.  When tempted to make an excuse why you can’t do something, ask Jesus to open the door that man can't close. (Revelations 3:8).

5.      Refuse to excuse lack of support. In John 5:7 the lame man said, “I have no man to help me.” He used that as an excuse to remain in his condition.  Even if everyone lets us down, God will support us. (Psalm 27:10).

6.      Get up on the roof! Luke 5:18-20 says, “When they could not find a way to get in, they went up on the roof and lowered their friend...right in front of Jesus.” Refuse to accept that there is no way. Faith finds a way! Success will come.

THINK IT & SAY IT:

I eliminate excuse-making from my thoughts and words. I will no longer excuse or justify mediocrity in my life; I will not allow lack or failure in my life. God has made me a success and I will press on to experience it.

I am forgiven and I will not withhold forgiveness from others. God takes up my cause and is my greatest support.  I believe there is always a way to succeed. I release my faith by asking God, and expecting Him to open the door that no man can close, in Jesus’ Name

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Saturday of the Second Week of Lent
March 26, 2011

“His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.’ But his father ordered his servants, ‘Quickly, bring the finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Take the fattened calf and slaughter it. Then let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.’ “      Luke 15: 18-24

Man, work can be stressful.  In this niche area of finance, where impulsive decision making and aggression is readily rewarded, an ally’s good intentions and actions often can be mis-categorized as a hindrance to others.  One particularly stressful day, I made a glaring error, and had hurt the whole team’s operations.  I was embarrassed and upset with myself.  I just wanted to be invisible.  In an effort to lessen my burden, my coworker Jim tried to assist by trying to take over some of my workload.  However, I met his attempt to assist with a more than a stern rebuke.  Initially, I thought I did not need his help.  I was in over my head, and the frustration had caused me to explode and to lose my cool.  Clearly, Jim’s feelings had been hurt.

That night, I finally got a chance to reflect on the events of the day.  Nagged by the hurt I caused, my interaction with Jim played over and over in my head.  His intentions were noble, my actions were selfish.  I was clearly in the wrong, but would I appear weak if I admitted that publicly?  Could I go into work the next day and just act like it never happened?  In the long run, my professional and personal relationship with Jim meant a lot to me, and I reasoned that the past day’s events needed to be addressed.  It was not easy, but I went hat in hand to my old friend and said the only thing I thought mattered: “I am sorry.”  Jim’s response was one of understanding and graciousness.    He knew I was under pressure, the apology meant a lot to him.  Right there, we were able to bury the issue and move on.   His generosity and kindness taught me bounds.  Though we all strive for perfection, often times in life we will slip up.  When this occurs, do not be afraid to be humble.  On the other hand, when someone wrongs you, be quick to forgive and generous in your acceptance.

Gracious and Loving Father: Each day you reveal yourself to us through gifts of unlimited love.  Though our intentions remain just and steady, Lord, give us the strength to remain faithful to our convictions.  When we stray, give us the courage to admit wrong, so that we may return to the grace and compassion you so graciously share.  Amen.
