Day 15 - Prayer & Fasting Gratitude

Today's Scripture Passage: I Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”

Today's Scripture Message:

Everyone has someone who no matter what, they are there for you. Your parents, your best friend, your sister or brother, your colleague…and because they are always that go-to person on your behalf, thank you’s become few and far in between because it becomes standard, more than a gift that they are always in your corner. This is the person who gives unconditionally never expecting anything of you, truly wanting the best for you and for your happiness.  Our father, provides unconditional love, protection and reverence to you on your behalf, take the time to simply say “Thank you”, it in itself is a powerful prayer. Remember all who remember you and simply say “Thank you”.

Prayer for the day:
Father I praise you for all that you have done, for all that you are doing, and for all that you will do on my behalf, thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”
~William Arthur Ward

Goal for the Day:
Extend a hand of thanks to those who are always there no matter what.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 15:

Today, we're fasting from the thought that says: "After what I’ve done wrong, I don't deserve to be blessed.".
Let’s change it today:

1.       Stop focusing on your "wrongs," and focus on His "rights." We've all done enough wrong in life to send us straight to hell. But God doesn't judge us based on our right or wrong. He judges us based on what Jesus did right. We need to believe it.

2.      It’s His choice. God has appointed you to bear fruit and that your fruit remain—John 15:16.

3.      Blessing flows when you believe you are forgiven. Romans 4:7 says, "Blessed are they whose sins are forgiven." This is amazing! Putting your faith in God's forgiveness is the gateway to blessing in your life.

4.      Jesus IS WORTHY of God's blessing, and you are IN HIM. Galatians 3:29 says, "If we belong to Christ, we are Abraham's seed and heirs according to promise.

5.      Stop condemning yourself. STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE. Romans 14:22 says, "Blessed (happy) is the man who does not condemn himself.

6.      He took the curse so you could take the blessing! HE deserves to see you blessed, because of what He went through to take your curse! "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us... on the cross...that the blessing of Abraham might come on us through Jesus Christ." (Galatians 3:13)

THINK IT & SAY IT:

I take my eyes off all that I have done wrong, and put my eyes on all that He has done right for me. He blesses me because He has chosen to. I receive it.  I choose to believe I am forgiven, and therefore BLESSING FLOWS. I belong to Christ, therefore I am blessed with Abraham. Genesis 24:1 says Abraham was blessed IN ALL THINGS - therefore that's what I expect.

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town
Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent
March 23, 2011
"Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  (Matthew 20:28)
I attended a planning meeting, in preparation for my 1st trip to Haiti to help set up a medical clinic for a village in which our parish was paired.  The Haiti mission director helped prepare us by explaining that we are there not to “help” but to “serve”; not to “make them better” but to “make us better.”  He reminded us that we are on the same road as the people we will be serving –not different roads that happen to intersect for a week.  We are in solidarity with them.  Every minute of the experience is important -even the 8 hours it will take to get to the village or the time it will take to stir the paint when we help paint their dwellings.  He asked us to live in the moment to get the best experience and to be better servants.
Because of that sage advice, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the week's experience.  I was able to forget about myself -for the most part-and get "lost" in the mission.  I honestly would never have been able to do that without listening to the director's words.  At one point, on the 50 miles of road to the village, our group was stopped by Haitian guerillas with machetes. Everyone in our group was scared but I thought it was cool!  I was excited by the event.  I believe I had that reaction because I had put us in God's hands and was mindful and "in the minute" of the experience.  If something serious had happened, I know I would have been scared, but the situation took about 30 minutes and then we were fine.

Help me, Lord, to offer the gifts I have humbly for the service of others.  Keep me mindful in my daily activities to act in love toward all I meet.  Amen.
