The Heart of the Matter

Scripture Passage

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Scripture Message

What a morning to witness… Sun shining not a cloud in the sky, but on the street…the biker cursing an older woman because she was “in his way” as he passed with his middle finger in the air; the homeless streetwise salesman being mocked and frowned at; the ethnic kids racing down the street excited at their last day of school and the non-tolerance of their excitement being loudly vocalized as racial slurs are wielded…all one morning.  Where is the care for those in general?  Where is the love and respect for your fellow man, woman, child…regardless of who, what and where they are in life?

How would your heart feel if suddenly you were thrown out of your norm and placed in a position of need and the world turned a blind eye to you because you are no longer as you were?

How are you to judge without the knowledge of the circumstance behind where people are at the moment they are in. How can you justify the fit of your shoes when the gentleman standing next to you has none?  How can you not feel the pain of the woman suffering as she painfully walks down the street just trying to make it to the other side. What has happened to the hearts of people that they no longer feel a responsibility to keep their brother? Are we no longer that?

I challenge everyone to examine the state of your heart and remember as you are at the moment, may not be the same the next time you gaze in the mirror of your life. Treat others as you wish to be treated, rediscover the love and respect for your fellow man.

Scripture Prayer

Father I thank and praise you for this beautiful day and all that you have shown me.  Grab a hold of the hearts and minds of our people and show them a kinder more meaningful way. Fill them with what they are lacking so the blessing overflow and fill them with the responsibility to life another life along their way. Forgive us our short comings father and know we need the guidance of your word and example in our lives. Keep your arms firmly wrapped around each of us until your love permeates us so that we have no choice but to share it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Humbled by His Presence

Today’s Scripture Passage

Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves”.

Scripture Message

Many times you do not realize exactly what things really mean, but in the process of doing in faith on behalf of others in order that they in turn find our Lord within their own lives is a humbling experience.  Today my neighbor passed away and it was an abrupt awakening on the shortness and uncertainness of your presence here and that we each have a responsibility to take the lessons granted us as Christians and use them to enrich the lives of others which many times means exiting our comfort zone and representing our Father in places that his spirit has yet to penetrate.  Our savior visited all of society to spread the Word of the goodness of our Father in heaven and welcomed all to know Him. Have we become too religious to be that example? Is there a monetary status quo that makes you a valuable or less valuable Christian? Can we circumvent ourselves to see past the cover and help others with the deeper issues to help them see your faith and God in you in order to recognize the God in them, just because?  Always communicate with our Father giving him permission to use you as the vessel you are; that his way be seen in your actions in order to increase his kingdom here on earth. My prayer is that we as Christians are forever humbled by the presence of God in our lives and that we are able to represent Him and His will for us and those who encounter us all until we are called to His presence in our final rest.

Prayer for the Day:

Father, I thank and praise you for all that you have done and all that you will do. I trust you with my life and understand my existence is now and always a representation of your intent for me.  I am eternally grateful for those who you have placed in front of me as well as those whom you have removed as I understand all is necessary according to your will for my life.  Thank you for always being there in my greatest moments and my deepest failures all of which you have used to shape me in the way you’ve seen fit. I am comforted knowing in you, it is done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day:

Goal for the Day:

Use what you have, even if you feel it is not much, to lift the spirits or lessen the burden of someone who could use exactly what you have to offer.
