Day 23 - Prayer & Fasting - ReCreation


Today's Scripture Passage: Ephesians 3:14-21

14For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen

Today's Scripture Message:

Too many times we are seeking happiness in others and in things, these are conditional inputs that bring feelings of happiness but should not be revered as the source of our happiness.  By depending on others & things you transfer your power to those things which are fleeting, but when the source of your happiness is the peace, contentment and joy of the purpose of life gifted you, your power is of spirit and not material (worldly).

It is the difference between the pleasure of always having your life; the spirit of God dwelling within you and the feeling of despair and end because something conditional in your life is lost or left.   You will live beyond any circumstance you face, in joy and contentment knowing within and around you through faith and understanding of the word of God, there our Father is with you, guiding you and removing from you all that is not purposed for you; presenting and placing all that is.  Be spirit minded and enjoy life to the fullest.


Prayer for the day:
Father, “Ephesians 3:15 – 21” (see above scripture),  in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 23:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “I don’t see a way out of my financial situation.” or “I feel trapped financially.”


Let’s change it today:

1.       Inaction keeps you poor. TAKE ACTION. 2 Kings 7 says the four leprous men said, “Why do we sit here and die?...Let’s go up...” When they took action, God got involved and multiplied their efforts.

2.      Spend time TODAY getting to know God better! Daniel 11:32 says, “Those who know their God will be strong and TAKE ACTION.” Meditate on His promises, and you’ll know Him better.

3.      BELIEVE: There’s always a way out of whatever you’re facing. Revelation 3:8 says God will open a door that no man can close.  (AND 1 Corinthians10:13) .

4.      Ask God for deliverance from your situation. James 4:2 says you have not, because you ask not. Romans 10:12 says all who call upon the Lord shall be DELIVERED—rescued!

5.      Change your thinking to: What goes DOWN, must come up! Plant a seed. The way out of any bad situation is to plant a seed for the opposite result. If you have a debt you can’t pay; pay someone else’s debt that they can’t pay; forgive a debt, someone else can’t pay you, etc.

6.      Malachi 3:10 says when you tithe, He opens the windows of heaven and pours out a blessing. This blessing can be an IDEA, a SOLUTION, a BREAKTHROUGH, a DEBT CANCELLATION—it’s MORE than just money.


THINK IT & SAY IT:

God always provides a way out of the situation I’m in. I am strong and TAKE ACTION because I know my God. He will open doors for me that no man can close. I call upon the Lord and expect His deliverance. The seeds I plant WILL come up in mighty harvests, ideas, solutions and breakthroughs, in Jesus’ Name!



Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town
Thursday of the Third Week of Lent
March 31, 2011

“This rather is what I command them: Listen to my voice; then I will be your God and you shall be my people. Walk in the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper.  But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed. They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces to me.  From the day that your fathers left the land of Egypt even to this day, I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets.  Yet they have not obeyed me or paid heed; they have stiffened their necks and one worse than their fathers.  When you speak all these words to them they will not listen to you either; when you call to them, they will not answer you.” Jeremiah 8: 23-27

Being a current neonatal nurse, and in the near future a pediatric nurse practitioner, I can understand God’s frustration.  Many of the patients and families I serve are not receptive to my care nor do they follow my advice.  No matter how much I offer of myself whether it is advice, education, or just an unbiased ear to listen it seems they are unwilling to listen and often end up coming back to the clinic with the same or an even worse health problem.

This can only minutely compare to God’s frustration as he for generations sent down his voice through prophets to the people of Israel encouraging them to turn from their sinful ways and to be obedient to Him.  I often go home at the end of the day wondering how much is going to “stick” and worry about the future of that baby or child.  This must be exponentially harder for God considering there are so many people out there that do not listen to him! In a way, that is slightly comforting to me, realizing that God is dealing with the same thing, yet He is always there in case those that refuse to listen, turn things around and come back looking for guidance. 

I hope that I find the strength throughout my career to always be there no matter how many times my patients do not listen or disobey my direction.  This enduring strength will come from God and also by celebrating the little successes with my patients.

Dear God, You know better than anyone how frustrating it is when people do not listen. Please give me the strength to keep trying, just as you do over and over again. Give me the wisdom to adapt my “voice” in order to reach the most people.  Thank you for giving me this gift of helping children and their families. In your name and your son, I pray. Amen.

Day 22 - Prayer & Fasting - Preservation


Today's Scripture Passage: Psalm 103:2-5

2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- 3 who forgives all our sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Today's Scripture Message:

The greatest gift we receive from God is His unconditional love.  When we make an effort to mirror this love for ourselves and then others it provides a benefit of peace that is unparalleled. 

Great question, “How can you love another, when you don’t love yourself?” This is not a selfish thought.  Love and care for the representation you are in His kingdom is presentation of His kingdom to the world and not only does it speak for itself, it draws nearer to you all that is necessary to move you joyfully along your path to / through your purpose. Love unconditionally. Live abundantly according to the promises of God.


Prayer for the day:
Father, I love the me that you have created. Not perfect, but GREAT… not conceited, but confident, Not proud, but humbled at the fact that you took and take so much time with me…patiently steering me along as I continually improve that which was already granted me. I know I have not always been correct, but thank you for always making it right as you see fit. I thank and praise you and will do the best to be my best that I can continue to be used on your behalf,  in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 22:

One of the keys to success in any area of life is being a servant—getting underneath others and pushing them up to succeed. So today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “If I live as a servant, I’ll be taken advantage of; and feel inferior.”


Let’s change it today:

1.       God prospers His servants! Psalm 35:27 says He takes delight and pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.

2.      See yourself as a son or daughter of God. (1 John 3:1) When you realize who you really are, you drive inferiority out of your life; therefore, you gladly serve others, pushing them up.

3.      Serving is not a stepping stone to greatness; it IS greatness. (Matthew 20:27) Get rid of the mindset that serving is a temporary role.

4.      The way up, is down. Understand that God promotes the humble, the servant. (1 Peter 5:6) “It is true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others succeed.” Napoleon Hill.

5.      Start serving by praying: pray for your leaders; for your employers; for those who use you, or take advantage of you. Prayer is loving—in the spirit.

6.      Others recognize when you are a true servant and they promote you. (Genesis 39:2-3).


THINK IT & SAY IT:

I follow the example of Jesus by being a servant, and pushing others up to succeed. I know that I will reap what I sew. As I help others succeed, success will come to me. I have a treasure of gifts inside of me, and I use them to serve others, to bless others, and to advance God’s Kingdom, in Jesus’ Name!



Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent
March 30, 2011

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  (Matthew 5:17, 19) 

A friend once said to me, “If you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plan.” I always imagined that by the time I turned thirty I would be living in the suburbs with my devilishly handsome husband and a bundle of kids…sometimes things don't always happen as we plan. 

After college, I took a job in corporate America working for one of the largest financial companies in the world, and I very quickly learned how easy it was to get caught up in the desire for money, success, and materialism. I witnessed firsthand how success caused some people to believe that they were above the law and I worried about how it might impact me and my relationship with Christ. This led me to contemplate the place for faith in my life and to question whether I “bought into” everything I had been taught through my years of Catholic schooling. Why did God give us the Commandments and call us to a life of virtue in the first place? Was he simply toying with us or trying to take the fun out of our lives? 

I came to realize that God does not seek to abolish the desires of our hearts; he simply invites us to redirect these desires by trusting in him and the plan that he has for our lives. This realization was both enlightening and frightening because it meant that I had to examine my own life and make some radical changes in the choices I was making.  I knew that this would not be an easy endeavor. I found myself listening to Jesus more deeply in prayer and sacrament and was surprised by the ease with which I was able to give my heart to him.

Now, when loved ones ask for my opinion on tough moral issues I find myself clinging to my faith more than ever, turning to the Holy Spirit for guidance on how to respond. It certainly would be much easier, and arguably healthier for the sustainability of the relationship, to placate them in these situations. Rather, I try to do for them what I would expect they would do for me; hold me accountable for my actions. 

It would be inconsistent with Catholic doctrine to say “I will obey his teaching about murder but not his teaching about adultery or fornication” or, “I will obey his teaching about theft but not about keeping holy the Sabbath Day.” Selective acceptance of Church teaching opposes God’s will.  Only through the complete embrace of his intentions will we be able to find our way to the kingdom of heaven. 

While I'm sure we will all “make God laugh” from time to time, submitting fully to our faith, trusting his divinity, and allowing him to use us as he sees fit will not only enrich our lives and relationships but forever secure the salvation of our souls.

Lord Jesus, you came to fulfill the Law of Moses and the Prophets. Help me to abolish the material desires of my heart and turn to you freely and without reservation trusting that you, and only you, know what is best for me. Help me to accept your will and spread your goodness and love to those I may encounter. Amen.

Day 21 - Prayer & Fasting - Favor


 Today's Scripture Passage: Joshua 1:3; 6-9

3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.

6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 

8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Today's Scripture Message:

Every day you are presented with a new opportunity to “get it right”.  Cease the prospect of what you can become if you take the time to work on YOU.  The blessing and the favor of God is tremendous and abundant. He with your permission, can rewrite your existence to fall in line with the true purpose of your life.  What are you waiting for?  What is in you NOW that you should be using to lift yourself and others from the excess of the blessing you have already been granted.  What are you doing opposite of that blessing that is keeping you from its full realization?  Need answers? Find it in His Word, faithfully execute your changes and watch how God not only delivers you, but uses you to lift others.


Prayer for the day:
Father I wake up every day renewed knowing you are with me. Always that warm embrace, listening ear & guiding word. I thank you for the blessings and favor placed over my life and will do all I can, everyday that I am here, to share my experiences in witness of you,  in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Revolution Day 21:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “Will I ever have enough?”

Let’s change it today:

1.       Look for a higher vision, not a higher income. (Proverbs 29:18) Live for a cause bigger than your needs and you'll have more than you need.

2.      Listen for God’s guidance for His next step for your life. Where God guides, He provides. (Proverbs 3:5-9).

3.      Stop thinking about money. Remember, God has a million ways He can provide--don't limit Him. (Psalm 78:14).

4.      Don’t allow your current circumstance to dictate your future. Your path is getting brighter and brighter every day. (Proverbs 4:18).

5.      God adds interest to the things that He is interested in! Fling yourself into what moves God's heart, and He will provide. (Matthew 6:33).

6.      Ask God for ideas that will HELP PEOPLE rather than ideas that produce money. And money will come when you're helping people. (Proverbs 19:17).


THINK IT & SAY IT:

I set my mind on God's vision for my life and I believe provision follows vision. God is my provider and is not limited by my current circumstances. I get my eyes off the provision I need, and ON the Provider! I expect ideas and ways to help the hurting, and the things that I need will find me, in Jesus’ Name

Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent
March 29, 2011

“That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan.  When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount.  He seized him and started to choke him…“   Matthew 18: 23-28

After graduating from college, I began working for a large, very competitive financial services firm here in the city.  There was no shortage of tense project deadlines, and a strict hierarchy within the project teams.  After working three years, I was a team leader, leading a particularly tough project. One evening I received some very stern directives from my boss at how to finish the project (I got yelled at). This meant I had to work the next few days and nights, until the project was done.  Personal life?  Who needs one of those!

My team wasn't to blame, as I had reviewed their work before it went to the big boss.  But since I was suffering, I made them suffer too. I came back in the room and found stupid things to yell at them about.  I had them stay late that evening also, even though there was very little they could do to fix the problems. The next morning, after about 4 hours of sleep, I brought in bagels for the team and apologized for acting that mean last night. We regrouped and delivered the project on time.
