Day 17 - Prayer & Fasting - Individualism

Today's Scripture Passage: Ecclesiastes 3:11

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Today's Scripture Message:

Live your life. All that is purposed for you is applicable only to you.  Everyone comes with strengths and weaknesses different from others so there is no comparison.  Many times we lose our focus for the distraction of what is happening around us. If you continue to strengthen your life, your purpose, your existence, it would become greater than you could have imagined.  Stop the “grass is greener” living and work on improving your own lawn.  Don’t miss the beauty before you for the admiration of what seems bigger & better, one thing is certain…exactly where you are is exactly where you chose to be, to improve it is to improve you according to what is best for you & not what is seemingly better for someone else. Do you!!!

Prayer for the day:
Father I realized how much effort you put in the creation of me. From the top of my head to the ball of my heels you thought of it all.  Who am I that I deserve so much? Thank you, for your attentiveness to my life, thank you for your love and care – mind, body and soul. But most of all thank you for the individual you’ve allowed me to be, an experience made just for me. The lessons, the life and the determination in your honor, to continue on as far as you will allow wakes me every morning hopeful of a day, that much better than the day before. All glory and honor to you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.”
~Henri L. Bergson

Goal for the Day:
If it is broken fix it so it pleases you, being the best you can possibly be fully represents exactly who you were created to be.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 17:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “I’m so worried about my financial condition.” As our thinking ascends to God’s way of thinking, worry dies.
Let’s change it today:

1.       Recognize God’s faithfulness—Psalm 37:25 says, “I have been young; now I am old; yet not once have I seen the righteous abandoned or his descendants begging for bread.”

2.      Think “long term”. A long term view of the economy reveals God’s faithfulness to His people; and a long term plan puts the power back in your hands.

3.      Be specific with God. Phillippians 4:6-7 says to make your request known to God. Whatever is worrying you matters to God. Let Him know what you need.

4.      Remember, worry is a SIGNAL to pray! (Phil. 4:6-7) James 4:2 says, “You have not because you ask not.”.

5.      Destroy powerlessness. All negative emotions, including ‘worry’ comes from feeling powerless to change our situation. Destroy it with Deuteronomy 8:18 which says “It is God who gives you the POWER to get wealth...”.

6.      Be on the giving side of life. Life is to give. Luke 6:38—it will be given back to you—so much more.

THINK IT & SAY IT:

God will never abandon me. He will never leave me nor forsake me. I attack worry by praying the Word of God regarding my finances. God is determined to establish His covenant through me, therefore I have the POWER to get wealth, and succeed, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town
Feast of the Annunciation
March 25, 2011
“Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me.”  Psalm 40:7

Reflecting on all the readings for today, I see one common theme – obedience to God’s will.
But, I am impatient.  I am proud. I try to relinquish control of my life to God, but I get frustrated.  I ask “Jesus, why aren't you listening?”  I've found that when I've relinquished that control, and I've handed myself over to God, I've found true peace.

Case in point, I met my fiance in high-school, 14 years ago.  I wanted to be married right out of college, and thought I had the perfect plan for our lives.  (I'm laughing to myself as I'm writing this, because I know how ironic it is that I was assigned these readings.)

My fiance, (then boyfriend), and I prayed together often, and we prayed for each other, and our relationship.  But, did I pray for wisdom, and to understand God’s true vocation in my life?  No, not really.  I prayed that God would make him propose-- and the sooner the better!  With each passing year, I grew more and more frustrated.   Until, it hit me that I was praying often, but not very well.  We began to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, and to ask for God’s will to be apparent in our lives.

Through all of this prayer, God gave me the strength to wait for my soon-to-be husband. (Not an easy task!) Looking back, I realize that God’s plan allowed me the time, energy and money to help my parents and siblings in their times of need. If all had gone according to my plan, I might not have been able to help my siblings stay in school, or provide child-care for my sister, or help my mother care for my ailing Grandmother. My perfect plan obviously didn't go according to my plan, and it wasn't perfect after all.  But, God’s perfect plan is perfectly wonderful to me!  Here we are, 14 years later, happy as can be, planning a wedding.

Kate Heemstra

Obedience is not always my strong suit, Lord, especially not obedience to your will.  Thank you for the gifts you give so graciously and generously to me.  Thank you for the strength to follow through in my obedience to your will when I truly know it and own it and let go of my own ideas on how my life should go.  Help me always to trust in your plan, in your time.  Amen.
