Day 20 - Prayer & Fasting - Listening

Today's Scripture Passage: John 16:13-15

13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

Today's Scripture Message:

You can hear all sounds around you, but only absorb that which you consciously focus on. We act on what is foremost on our minds and if our thoughts are cluttered, there is no focus so your action is sparatic and uncertain. Retrain your mind that you listen more than you hear; that understanding is ushered in and your movements, certain.  You can choose to live according to purposeful distraction or to live on purpose. It is always your decision.

Prayer for the day:
Father continue to point me in the direction of you, in my thoughts, my words, my movements -  all of my life. In all that I do, my focus is on you and in that I know there is no folly. Thank you for this moment and all that follow it, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
~Albert Einstein

Goal for the Day:
Clear the clutter that confusion causes. Seek clarity find your opportunity.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 20:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “Will I ever be free from this financial pressure?”
Let’s change it today:

1.       Understand the power of decision. Decide that you will deal with money the way God’s Word says to. (John 2:5) No matter what.”

2.      Understand the kingdom of God. Heaven is a place; but the kingdom of God is God’s way of doing things. When you seek to do things God’s way, provision comes. (Matthew 6:33).

3.      Understand pressure’s goal: to get you to make a decision that temporarily relieves the pressure, even though it doesn’t produce results. (Luke 4:2-4) Resist this pressure by speaking the Word of God.

4.      Look outward, not inward. Find someone worse off and help relieve their financial pressure. You will be sowing for a supernatural harvest. (Proverbs 19:17).”.

5.      He must increase but I must decrease. (John 3:30) As you increase your focus and attention on Jesus, pressure loses its power over you. (Hebrews 12:1-3).

6.      Take spiritual inventory. THERE ARE MORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE AGAINST YOU. (2 Kings 6:15-17).

THINK IT & SAY IT:

I walk in the power of the kingdom of God. I do things God’s way; and I have supernatural results. I refuse to make my decisions to relieve pressure, but I make my decisions in line with the Word of God.  I declare that God provides for my every need, and my decisions line up with God’s Word. I fix my eyes on Jesus and trust that God has an army of angels surrounding me, helping me, in Jesus’ Name

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Monday of the 3rd Wk of Lent
March 28, 2011

“But his servants came up and reasoned with him.  ‘My father,’ they said, ‘if the prophet had told you to do something extraordinary, would you not have done it?  All the more now, since he said to you, “Wash and be clean,” should you do as he said.’” (2 Kings 5: 13-14)

I had a high school teacher whose favorite saying was “KISS” – keep it simple, stupid.  I, of course, felt very insulted whenever he hurled it at my direction, but I've come to have a better understanding where he was coming from as an adult.  I have had issues in the past with over complicating things, thinking things through too much, placing emphasis on things that shouldn't have any.  Not only does that result in my spinning my wheels and not really getting anything accomplished, but worse, spending precious time over working and over thinking things that should be solved simply.  Just because something is “simple” doesn't mean it’s not worthwhile.  It was probably my children who have taught me this lesson more than anyone.  Their favorite childhood memories aren't of that expensive vacation that took so long to plan and pay for—but the Illinois State Beach camping trip where it rained for days, our picnics at Lincoln Park Zoo, and the birthday cakes that were hastily prepared and not quite perfect.  Even though I now appreciate “KISS,” I still prefer “keep it simple silly!”

Heavenly Father,
Help me to recognize what is important in life and redirect my actions when I lose my way.  Remind me to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life.  I bless you and praise you.  Amen.
