Stress is Death

Today's Scripture Passage: Matthew 6:25-27

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Today's Scripture Message:

“Do not worry” is different from “Do not care”. Worry is a derivative of stress. Care a derivative of love. So when you are instructed not to worry it means to know you are cared for and live within a love for yourself enough to know worrying is not an option and that you were gifted with the ability to see things through.  Worry is a distractive mechanism that comes in and distorts the clarity of your thoughts. Disallowing the stressor to overtake your thinking allows a focused vision and a determined outcome. Death or Life, Worry or Care…as with all things is a choice. Choose wisely and love yourself enough to know the difference.

Prayer for the day:

Father, thank you for guiding me to the unconditional love you have for me. How can I be less than that which you hold in such high regard. I thank and praise you for revealing to me all that I am and commit my life and the blessings you have shown me to continually bless others all to your glory, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind.  If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.”

 ~ Arthur Somers Roche

Goal for the Day
Focus on the care needed to meet your objective and handle your tasks. Don’t worry about the provision, in your care – opportunity is there.

A Redefinition of Our Personal Identity

Today's Scripture Passage: Ephesians 5:8

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

Today's Scripture Message:

“He doesn’t understand me”; “She acts like she doesn’t know me” or “They simply don’t listen to me”.  A finger pointed outward, always… Is it possible the reason is what we communicate is not what we or who we actually are? That we have gotten so roped in by our circumstances, that we are defined by our environment, more than identified by whom we truly are? I return to that statement “NO ONE” and add NO THING “CAN TELL YOU” / DICTATE TO YOU “WHO YOU ARE AND MAKE YOU BELIEVE IT.” Ultimately it is your choice. [Stay with me now] While you cannot control all that happens around you, you are in control of the weight you allow that circumstance to hold which becomes an anchor or a springboard, you choose. The difference is made when you know who you are and more importantly WHOSE you are and you make a conscious effort to act within that knowledge allowing your character to provide an unquestionable introduction to everyone you meet before a word has been spoken. So the next time you convene with confusion regarding your IDENTITY, take stock of and manage what you can control…YOURSELF…work out the kinks of what might be being miscommunicated and let what is not for you fall away and that which is, refoundationalize and grow stronger, then and only then will the light of who you are be seen exactly as it should be.

Prayer for the day:

Father, as I move through my day keep my mind stayed on you, that I don’t deviate from who I am due to what I face. You will not place upon my shoulders more than I can bare and in the onset of my turbulent time, because you have given me victory, my faith is in you according to the promises of your word. Hold me and guide me renewing my strength and through it all I am confident all is well, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives.  Man’s life is independent.  He is born not for the development of the society alone, but for the development of his self.”

 ~ B.R. Ambedkar

Goal for the Day
Repair your foundation. Master its maintenance and allow the magnificence of that care to be an inspiration to others.

Making Every Moment Productive

Today's Scripture Passage: Proverbs 12:24

24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.

Today's Scripture Message:

What throughout the day are you doing that your time could be used more efficiently so it propels you more than pulls you along?  Everyone has life issues that consume their time in ways that take away from other things, but taking the time to figure out how to make the most of the time you have will open doors you may have missed in the clutter of your “busy-ness”.  Activating a “get it done now” rather than a “I still have time” approach to tasks alleviates last minute rush to finish problems and stress that in essence would not be there had we simply taken the time to balance the task and simply do something towards completing it now, instead of later. Everything that is unattended becomes harder to deal with if left for another day. Face what need be done now, or be subject to it later.

Prayer for the day:

Father, help my hands to remain active. Keep me willing to battle the problems at their inset that the outcome is favorable. Give me the strength to stay the course and see things through that not a moment of the time you have granted me is wasted, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“Procrastination is the thief of time: Year after year it steals, till all are fled, and to the mercies of a moment leaves the vast concerns of an eternal scene.”

 ~ Edward Young

Goal for the Day
Handle it now.  Letting it go looses you the opportunity to get rid of it all together.

Balance is to have trust in something that destiny has no influence on...even if your personal perceptions of life seem very uncomfortable in some aspects it’s not all about you feeling unnoticed or being let down, it’s a simple task of remaining calm in your positioning, appreciation, consideration, and forgiveness… taking a simple approach to learning that begins with Heaven in your heart.

Happy Easter!!!

Matthew 28

Jesus Has Risen
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Easter Prayer

Father, I am eternally grateful for the sacrifice made on my behalf, for loving me so much you sent your son to redeem me, just because. Everyday I live in honor of your sacrifice and though at times I fall short, your grace always guides me to your unconditional care. My life is lived in glory and praise to you, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Last Supper

Today's Scripture Passage: Matthew 26:17-30

17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”  22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”  23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”    Jesus answered, “You have said so.” 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Goal for the Day

Daily Lenten Reflection from
St. Michael of Old Town

Wednesday of Holy Week
April 20, 2011

“The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them… And I have not rebelled, have not turned back.  I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard…I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame… See, the Lord GOD is my help; who will prove me wrong?” (Isaiah 50: 4-7, 9)

I am convinced that success has a lot to do with the confidence with which we approach things.  It took me a long time to realize this and a longer time to admit it.  I much prefer a universe where success is the pure and direct result of labor and intelligence, not hubris, but that perception misrepresents the complexities of confidence that we’re reminded of in this prophecy.  Confidence can be grounded in deep personal or spiritual alignment.

That could mean alignment with personal interests: There’s a popular business book which argues that lasting success is dependent upon doing something you love.  The premise is that focusing on your passions gives you confidence in your direction which leads to hard work and sustainable success.  I buy it.  It makes perfect sense that when you’re doing work you are excited by personally you will have the confidence to put your whole self into that work and you will see greater success as a result.  Yet Isaiah’s passage reminds me that there is an even greater resolve available to us as Christians: the Heavenly resolve that comes from doing work that is pleasing to God.

Beyond the confidence that comes from doing something I love, an even greater confidence and success can be had by doing work I know God loves.  As Isaiah wrote, “the Lord GOD is my help; who will prove me wrong?”  Isaiah wrote about a messiah doing the work most obviously in concert with God’s will, but it’s easy to imagine that confidence extending across a wide range of actions that would be grounded in love and pleasing to God.

Of course, the best scenarios will be those that allow us to accomplish both, bringing about an unflappable confidence.  Recently I’ve been lucky enough to move into a job that’s both personally exciting and - I believe - pleasing to God.  Sure enough, I’ve found that I bring to the job a sense of confidence that I’ve never felt before – that the Lord God is my help, that I can set my face like flint and be certain in my direction.  Because if I’m doing something that’s both pleasing to me and pleasing to God, how can I go wrong?

Nic
God the Father, help me to find confidence through alignment with your will and my passions, that this resolve might make me a more effective disciple and exhibit of the faith which we can put in you.
