Today's Scripture Passage: Matthew 26:6-13
6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a] but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
Today's Scripture Message:
I believe we have all heard the term “it’s not the gift, but the thought that counts” I remember a Christmas of my oldest daughter, who’d made a list of everything she wanted. Thinking, this was a good year, took the list and gifted her according to her list. While doing a favor for a friend during the holiday season & helping him out at his dollar store, I picked up a toy which cost $1.00. It was too big to fit in her stocking so it was wrapped with the others and placed under the tree. Of all the gifts she received (all of which were on her list), she was excited over the $1.00 gift originally intended as a stocking stuffer… At first I didn’t understand it, but later on realized this was the only gift I’d thought to get her outside of what she expected and maybe that is why it seemingly meant more. I learned a valuable lesson that day…It is not in the cost of what I could provide, but the heart behind what was given that really matters.
Prayer for the day:
Father, please keep me humble where I live, love and give heartfully that my intent is of your will and I courageously do as purposed, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
Thought for the day:
“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.”
~ Anthony Robbins
Goal for the Day
Take the time to be a blessing, sharing from the excess of the gifts you’ve been given.

Daily Lenten Reflection from
St. Michael of Old Town
Tuesday of Holy Week
April 19, 2011
“For you alone are my hope, Lord, Yahweh, I have trusted you since my youth, I have relied on you since I was born, you have been my portion from my mother’s womb, and the constant theme of my praise.” Psalm 71: 5-6
There have been times in my life when I have felt totally without hope. Once was when my three sons were very young. My husband and I lived two thousand miles from our families. Our young marriage struggled not only with the great fatigue of child-rearing (and no Grandma or Grandpa to come to the immediate rescue!) but also with my husband’s sudden onset of a seizure disorder. My husband was steadfast, but I buckled under the pressure, feeling inadequate, alone, overwhelmed, and terribly frightened. My prayers for relief from my pain seemed unanswered and I “shook my fists at the heavens.”
My faith was gone. Still, there must have been a deep seed of hope, because somehow I dragged myself to Mass week after week, often just kneeling and weeping quietly with my head in my hands, as others prayed around me. Then one Sunday, kneeling as the others stood, I found myself surrounded by God’s love as their prayers blanketed me with hope. The great sorrow slowly lifted, my hope became full and real. In time, the children grew up, the doctors were able to help my husband, the marriage matured. There is no question anymore that I hope and trust and rely on the Lord, even as other trials of life may present themselves for my challenge.
Mary Sondag
Oh God, You called me before I was born, from my mother’s womb, You pronounced my name. May my faith and hope and trust in You rise as a song of praise so that all may know your Love. Amen!
