Day 40 - Prayer & Fasting - Requests

Today's Scripture Passage: Matthew 6:19-21

13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 15"If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

Today's Scripture Message:

I heard a wonderful message about the power of faith in the  covering we have praying, asking & healing in the name of Jesus.  As with many things we do routinely our prayers end “in Jesus’ name, Amen” but without the conviction of faith behind the binding of that prayer, they are only words. Ending prayer in the name of Jesus is to bring glory to the Father that the works expected become evident as faith is the belief in things unseen. A wonderful explanation of prayer in the name of Jesus is found at bible.org Significance in Prayer in His Name stating:  The condition of the believer is evidently vital in availing prayer. Obedience is a part of asking “in His name.” But it is not simply a battle to do the Lord’s will that wins answer in prayer. It is not a barter of our good works for what we want in prayer. It is infinitely higher than this. From the teachings in the parting counsels of Christ, we learn that the key to the condition of the believer which corresponds to being “in my name” is found in the ministry of the Holy Spirit and in our abiding in Christ. It is evident that these two features are bound intimately together”. In Matthew 14:28-31 Peter said to Jesus, 28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." 29"Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" A while ago I was told by someone, “Be careful, believing the literal expectation of the word leads to disappointment” but I am a witness, my faithful expectation of the Word of God has never and will never fail me. It is my continence and the reason why, through many trials & turbulent times, I am still here to witness to all that has been evidenced to me according to faithful prayer according to the His word, covered by the blood of Jesus in his name that All Truth be self evident.  Unlike the world, Kingdom truth is exactly what it is TRUTH…not the perception or variation of truth. Glory to God, in Jesus’ name everything done in his name is blessing and His will always done in His honor

Prayer for the day:

Father, my confidence is in you; my faithfulness, in the promises of your Word. Grant me the strength each day to continue in your honor, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“You block your dreams when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.”

Goal for the Day

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 40:

Today we're fasting from the thought that says, “I doubt I will ever really prosper and succeed.

 Let’s change it today:

1.       Discover the root of doubt.  Doubt comes when we judge our situation by what it looks like or what we feel, rather than by what God said. (2 Corinthians 5:7).

2.      Stop seeing double!  Doubt means DOUBLE; to be divided in your mind.  We must CHOOSE to believe ONLY the Word of God.

3.      Recognize the consequence of doubt—James 1:6-7. The one who doubts CAN’T receive from God.

4.      Starve your doubt. When the thought of doubt comes, replace it with the exact opposite thought.  For example, the thought comes: “I’ll never get out of debt.” Replace it immediately with: “My God supplies all my needs. And I shall lend, rather than borrow.”

5.      Be child-like in your faith. Don’t over-analyze. Children believe. They haven’t let reason and intellect, and life experiences dampen their faith.  See yourself as a child - child of God. Accept what He says. (Matthew 18:3)!

6.      Jesus is in the boat with you. He said, “Why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31). He was surprised by their doubt, since He was right there with them. Believe He’s with you. His presence is enough—you will succeed.

THINK IT & SAY IT:
I choose to believe what God says, regardless of what I see or feel. I receive from God.  I feed my faith with the Word and starve my doubts. Since Jesus is the boat with me, I will arrive at the place of great success, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from
St. Michael of Old Town

Passion (Palm) Sunday
April 17, 2011

“The Lord God has given me a well trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.”  Isaiah 50:4

Working with a brilliant person is both exciting and challenging.  Such was the situation in one of my first jobs.

I was a sales representative for a company that produced Medical Illustrations for personal injury attorneys.  One of the founders of the company, John, was a young, good-looking, very intelligent attorney.  He prided himself on his words and intellect.  John was married and had one child at the time.
John was also a philandering drug addict and a confused Christian.  Somehow in the office, everyone knew this and spoke about it except me.  By the grace of God, I was protected from the gossip but of course heard rumblings.  I was shielded probably because people knew I was quite the proud little Irish Catholic.  On business trips, I would try to go to Mass and they knew that, although I could have a glass of wine with the best of them and was no better than any of them, I wasn't afraid to tell someone I would pray for them when a family member was very sick (as an example).

Because it was evident that I was an active member of my church, John would try and corner me with questions about God, faith, etc.  I don't remember many specifics of the conversations and so I have no idea how I handled them except that in time, I started to pray that the next time John cornered me, I would handle it through God’s words not mine.

The next time came. I was in my office and John burst in and threw a magazine on my desk and yelled:  “How do you know that HE is not the savior? How do you know Jesus is the savior?”  I was stunned and looked down to see a picture of David Koresh (Waco, TX) on the cover.  I did not think about what to say; God spoke for me.  All I heard come out of my mouth was “Faith.”

He was stunned and said “What?”  By that time, I was more in the moment and said:   “Because I have faith; that’s how I know.”  He took the magazine and left quietly.  I think he was ready for an argument, but because “The Lord gave me a well-trained tongue,” there was no argument to have.

Lord, may Your words fill me and aid me when I am confronted with difficult situations and people.
