Day 31 - Prayer & Fasting - Blessing

 

Today's Scripture Passage: Philippians 4:8

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.


Today's Scripture Message:

 You can make a choice to focus on the lesson and the blessing of everything you face.  Things come along to challenge us and make us stronger, not to anchor us and wear us down.  Sure unexpected circumstances will present themselves, but it is not in what has happened externally, but how you process and handle it internally that gives it its strength or refuses to. Life is not to dictate to you, who you are...you are to know and fashion your life according to that knowledge.


Prayer for the day:
Father, thank you for the blessings you have granted me.  I ask for your protection and guidance as I make decisions, always pointing me in the direction of you, in Jesus’ name, Amen..

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 31:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “Someone is in the way of my promotion or advancement.”
Whether it’s a co-worker, boss or nemesis, at times, we feel someone’s standing in the way of our success.

Let’s change it today:

1.       Promotion comes from God. (Psalm 75:6-7) If you are doing your part, and someone is in the way, God will move you from them or around them.

2.      Do your work as unto the Lord, and He will reward. (Colossians 3:23-24) Refuse to focus on the boss or worker over you or in front of you. Focus on working for God as His servant.”

3.      Reject the idea that anyone has the power to make you succeed or fail. (Deuteronomy 11:25, Joshua 1:5) No one can stand against you, when God is on your side.

4.      Adopt the heart of a servant and the mind of a leader. Think of ways to make your company succeed. And put a heart of humility into it. You will succeed. People will want to promote you. (James 4:10, 1 Peter 5:6).

5.      Think this: Nothing less than excellence will do!  2 Corinthians 8:7 says ...excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, and in all eagerness and in the love from us that is in you.

6.      Think ‘eternity’, not ‘temporary’. Live for the eternal rewards—by seeking to glorify God in everything you do. (2 Corinthians 5:10) Promotion will come”


THINK IT & SAY IT:

God is on my side, and He is the source of my promotion and advancement. I will not be moved by the people standing in my way. No one can keep me down. I refuse to give anyone that control over my thinking. God will reward me as I live a life of excellence and honor to Him, in Jesus’ Name!


Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent
April 8, 2011

“They knew not the hidden counsels of God..."  (Wisdom 2:22a.) 
There are never enough hours in the day.  Before we had our second daughter, friends and family told us that with each child, you learn how to become more efficient.  As a work-from-home lawyer and mother of infant Evelyn and 2-year-old Lily, I am still learning where and how to cut corners. 

Tonight my husband and I had plans to go to dinner.  However, two baby girls sick with colds and necessary work prevented that.  Our backup plan was to order dinner in after we put the girls to bed and watch a movie in our basement. That plan was canceled too. Instead, my husband waved to me from the hallway before he went to bed. We were both up late working, and I found myself rocking our sniffling baby in the darkness of her nursery. Back and forth. My mind wandered to adult conversation, a glass of wine, and a meal prepared by someone else.  But as I looked down at the eyes locked so deeply onto my face, I realized I was perfectly satisfied.  I leaned over, and Evelyn and I rubbed our noses together in the warm glow of her nightlight.  She touched my cheek and my eyes with her pudgy hand. 

The intimacy I will share with my daughters someday will be lunch after shopping or a phone call from college.  For now, I will revel in my baby’s breath and in every new word that rolls off Lily’s tongue. These are the secret purposes of God.  As we watch and listen closely, we can feel how long and joyful the day is.

Dear God – Help me to treasure every moment of my day.  Help me to be at peace and to realize how blessed I am to have love in my life.  May you always reveal to me your hidden counsels.  Amen.
