Day 24 - Prayer & Fasting - Attentiveness

Today's Scripture Passage: Genesis 39:2-6

2 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 6 So he left in Joseph's care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Today's Scripture Message:

Many times you miss the message because you are distracted by other things.  Get it in order.  Every day you receive an instruction, are you missing it?  Keep your mind stayed on Him and the focus of His instruction to you.  Have faith knowing his Word NEVER fails.  Do all that you can in line with the direction you have been given and listen for more instruction.  As long as you breathe, there are things to achieve, get your directives, formulate a plan & complete your task. Be faithful knowing you will succeed.

Prayer for the day:
Father, I pray that I have the awareness enough to always recognize your instruction. For all that you to & all that I am because of you, I thank you.  All Glory and honor is yours, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success. ”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Goal for the Day:
You have received instruction, listen and execute.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 24:

Today we are fasting from the thought that says: “If I just do more for God, perhaps He will finally bless me.”This thinking is robbing so many people of the blessing and privileges He wants us to walk in.

Let’s change it today:

1.       Remember, Christianity is not about the promises we make to God, but the promises He makes to us. (2 Corinthians 1:20) The promises are YES. Our part: to say AMEN! Believe it. Receive it!

2.      Exchange this “slave” mentality for a “son” mentality. You don’t have to earn God’s blessing. It's your right as a son. (Romans 8:15) Stop trying to DO enough. You ARE enough—a son/daughter!

3.      Stop seeing yourself as an outsider. Mark 1:11 says you are His beloved child. He’s pleased with your faith. Faith brought Abraham into the blessing, and it brings you too! (Galatians 3:8-9).

4.      You are already blessed! Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who HAS ALREADY BLESSED US, with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 1:3) See it? We are already blessed! Thank Him--that’s the prayer of faith!

5.      Freely we have received, now freely give. KNOWING that you have freely received puts into motion a generous attitude which perpetuates more blessing. (Matthew 10:8).

6.      We have a covenant of blessing! God’s blessing will overtake you when you BELIEVE in this covenant. Jesus earned it for you. It sounds too good to be true; but it IS true. (Genesis 17:2-8).

THINK IT & SAY IT:

I live by the promises of God. I am a son/daughter of God. I am not a slave, needing to earn my blessing or earn my freedom. The Son has made me free; and God has already blessed me with all blessings. I have freely received; therefore, I am free to give. I have a covenant of blessing and I am not on the outside, looking in; I have an inheritance. I am in God’s will, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Friday of the Third Week of Lent
April 1, 2011

“The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”  (Mark 12:31)

Reflecting on the Scripture for today put a smile on my face.  Loving thoughts of my maternal grandparents warm my heart. My younger sister and I had the blessing of spending every summer in Iowa with them from Kindergarten into our teens. They were of staunch Protestant faith. We never missed a Sunday without going to church. Nor did we miss the pot luck dinners or the Bible Study group my Grandmother hosted weekly. My little sister would help her bake cookies and I would serve the tea.  She also taught us how to sew. Our Grandmother was always making little frilly girl dresses, toddler-size shirts and shorts. There were always a dozen or so on hand. Then every other week, they would be brought down to the University Hospital and put in the children’s wing. When a young child was released from the ward, they were able to pick out any outfit they wanted and that’s how they left the hospital, feeling better and with, for some, the only special outfit they would ever have.

My Grandfather had his own way of living out this commandment, too.  Every morning he would get up at 4:30, have his breakfast and then go down to the VA Hospital and visit people who didn't have any families. He would bring them a cup of coffee, a sweet roll, the daily Iowa City Gazette or just a big smile and a handshake. Grandpa would spend a few minutes chatting, listening or just sitting there—whatever he felt was needed. Then off he would go to the next room to brighten yet another forgotten soul.

It was only natural for me, when I decided to settle down, to give service to the Lord. My prayers were answered. I was guided toward helping children, who by no fault of their own; needed a home and guidance. “Love your neighbor as yourself,” is as much a part of me as breathing!

Vikki Classen

Lord, I thank you every day for the blessing of my Grandparents. They opened their home and hearts to their two oldest grandchildren; it was not easy. They taught me the meaning of unconditional love. No matter how troubled I was, they worked with me. They showed me patience and understanding. I learned about you from their guidance, with Sundays spent at church. Your teachings were put into action for us to see. Thank you Lord, for giving us all those summer, to bring us closer to you.  Amen.
