Day 38 - Prayer & Fasting - Wealth

Today's Scripture Passage: Matthew 6:19-21

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Today's Scripture Message:

Does this mean live poorly and not provide for yourself or family? Does it mean you are not allowed nice things if you can afford them? No it means to not covet material things considering them as wealth when your true wealth is the blessing of what you can offer from your heart.  When your focus is only on that which is tangible it can be lost or easily taken away, but when your focus is on the value of the intangible nature of all that you have to offer from inside of you, it can never be taken from you. Today, may we pray with a special focus on our future leaders to guide our country with unwavering intention to treasure our Heavenly Father and His guidance through His Word. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also"- Matthew 6:21.

Prayer for the day:

Father, We pray that our leaders have unbreakable faith, the courage and conscience to steer us on a path of humble care for all God’s children and lead our country with the original intent of our founding fathers as "one nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thought for the day:
“But how shall we expect charity towards others, when we are uncharitable to ourselves? Charity begins at home, is the voice of the world; yet is every man his greatest enemy, and, as it were, his own executioner.”

 ~ William Shakespeare

Goal for the Day
Offer a gift to yourself today and give from the excess of that gift to others.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 38:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “What if I end up poor when I’m old?" We need to attack this fear with the Word of God and with right thinking.

 Let’s change it today:

1.       Embrace God as your source—you’re only source. That doesn’t mean you don’t work or save. But fix your mind on God as provider. He is Jehovah Jireh—your provider (Genesis 22:12-14)..

2.      "Poor” thinking leads to “poor” living. Replace ‘poverty’ thinking (just getting by), with ‘prosperity’ thinking. Look up Romans 8:32. God supplies us with all things RICHLY to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17).

3.      Think on God’s faithfulness. (Psalm 37:25) "Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God.” (Deuteronomy 7:9) He will not fail you—He will provide—Hebrews 13:5.

4.      Renew your mind to the purpose of money. God wants you blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:1-3). Deuteronomy 8:18 says He gives us the power to get wealth—TO ESTABLISH HIS COVENANT.”

5.      YOU HAVE CONTROL. Say it and believe it. You control your financial future by the seeds you sow and by the plans you make!

6.      BELIEVE in the power of wisdom. You can ask for and receive MORE THAN YOU NEED (James 1:5). Solomon asked for wisdom, and he became wealthy. (2 Chronicles 1:11)

THINK IT & SAY IT:
I embrace God as my source. He provides all things richly for me to enjoy. I rebuke the fear of being poor, and I fill my mind with thoughts of God’s provision. He is faithful to me, because of His covenant. I see the purpose of money is to advance the kingdom of God and I expect to bring MUCH advance for His glory.  I expect the wisdom of God to flood my life beginning today, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from
St. Michael of Old Town

Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent
April 15, 2011

“My God, my rock of refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold!  Praised be the Lord, I exclaim, and I am safe from my enemies.”  (Psalm 18:3-4)

I have been very blessed in my life. I did not grow up knowing God or Jesus, but I have been so fortunate that I came to understand that Someone or Something had to be responsible for this. It wasn't just “the luck of the draw.”

I had Catholic friends and began attending Mass pretty regularly with one of them and with her family.  I found it fascinating.  I asked questions and began to feel comfortable with the worship. After some time had passed, I decided to inquire into the Faith. What do Catholics believe?  Do I want to be a Catholic?

My job situation changed with more responsibilities and I had to change cities and RCIA processes. Just when I began at St. Michael, a multi-million dollar deal went bad with our company. I had to work 24/7 to turn things around.  Even in the midst of what appeared to be a complete failure, I never lost hope.  I knew that God had brought me safe thus far and would continue to bless me. Within weeks, a horrible, financially disastrous situation was turned around and even though we are not completely out of the woods yet, a whole new direction and opportunity has opened up for us. Once again, I am praising God, knowing his goodness to me, his generosity to me.  In spite of the work of some companies to put us out of business, we are safe. God is good.

C

God, I am still learning how to pray, but I know and sense your presence.  Your kindness and generosity to me has shown me the path of generosity and kindness in my own life.  As you continue to reveal yourself to me, help me to “see” your hand in my life.  Give me strength and courage to follow your lead and example.  Amen.

A home truly flourishes off of peace and harmony - working together. Submission is the key to releasing the fault finder in you. Respect can consists of not having much, while at the same time being loved without a troubled mind and giving as we do to ourselves to others, so keep that in mind today.
