Day 30 - Prayer & Fasting - Release

Today's Scripture Passage: Ephesians 4:26-27

26"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold.

Today's Scripture Message:

There is so much truth to the scripture “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”. Anger rots vengeful thoughts and a hardening of your heart. While you have no control over other’s actions, you are fully in charge of your own. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord (Romans 12:19) – the pursuit of a quick fix of pride leads to more disruption, be the example you want to see, be the happiness you want, own your joy not the intent to steal it.  The devil is not allowed, unless you invite him in…give him no place in your life as he is defeated by the blood of Christ and has NO place in the Kingdom of God.

Prayer for the day:
Father, help me to forgive as I have been forgiven. It is not my duty to repay others bad but to leave it in your hands to do as you see fit. I understand it is not my way but yours in all that I do your way, not mine, in Jesus’ name, Amen..

Thought for the day:
“I have no regrets in my life.  I think that everything happens to you for a reason.  The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person.”
~ Rita Mero

Goal for the Day:
Love anyway, besides whatever, stronger than ever.

Pastor Dickow’s Fast from Wrong Thinking
Revolution Day 30:

Today we’re fasting from the thought that says, “Will I ever have financial peace?” Statistics say that over 60% of Americans live from paycheck to paycheck. Under those conditions, one problem can send a person spiraling downward financially.

Let’s change it today:

1.       Financial peace starts with “soul” peace. Your mind is your power center. Whatever fills your mind, will eventually fill your life. Fill it with the Word of God. (Psalm 1:1-3, Joshua 1:7-8).

2.      Change your thinking about the kingdom of God. The kingdom of “Heaven” is a place; but the kingdom of God is a SYSTEM or way of doing things. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first God’s kingdom—(His way of doing things) and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

3.      Realize that you can take control of your future! The life you have NOW is the harvest of previous seeds. So plant the seeds NOW for your future harvest. (Galatians 6:7-9).

4.      IMMEDIATELY create a financial plan. (Proverbs 16:9) When you create a godly plan, God will order your steps. If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

5.      Think correctly. Don’t think about how much seed you have to sow. Think about how much harvest you want; and work your way backward. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

6.      The goal of learning is ACTION, not just knowledge. Reject the idea that knowledge is power. Knowledge is fuel—but action is the power! Daniel 11:32 says, “Those who know their God will be strong and TAKE ACTION.”

THINK IT & SAY IT:

I CAN take control of my future. My seeds produce my harvest and I refuse to let my future be determined by anyone else but me and God. I choose God’s way of handling my thoughts and my money. I am strong because I know God and take the action necessary to succeed, in Jesus’ Name!

Daily Lenten Reflection from St. Michael of Old Town

Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent
April 7, 2011

"...continued the Lord to Moses.  "Let me alone then that my wrath may blaze up against them to consume them." "Why, Lord, should your wrath blaze up against your own people?”  So the Lord relented in the punishment he threatened."  (Ex. 32: 9b, 10a,11b, 14)

Being a parent has had many challenging moments and glorious moments. Some days I would find the task of being a Mom overwhelming. I couldn't wait for my husband to come home from work. I would ask him to go to the children before I said or did something I would regret. With 5 children ranging in age from 1 to 17, there was a variety of ages and stages and patience could wear pretty thin on some days.

Perhaps the hardest thing for me was dealing with the teenagers when they simply forgot to check in or became so frightened because they knew they had neglected to check in when they were late, that they made it worse by staying away, unwilling to take their punishment.  Two incidents stand out in my mind. My oldest daughter, Lisa, was a sophomore at St. Ignatius, a school noted for its diversity and its academics. She made friends with other students from all over the city.  It was difficult to keep track of them and her and all of the details in the lives of her younger siblings as well.  One day, I realized it was well after 5 PM and she had not returned home after school.  By 6 PM, I was fuming, by 7 PM frightened. When she finally showed up at 8 PM, having decided to travel to the far north side with a new Polish friend, I didn't know if I should yell at her or hug her in joy at her return. I probably did some of both, but relief of her safety was paramount.

Another child, another teen-age episode…staying out well after the curfew for the dance.  I remember rocking in my rocking chair with the baby at 3 AM wondering, “Now what?  What parent wants another parent to call at 3 AM?”  When the missing teen-ager appeared, chagrined, remorseful, exhausted, and repentant at 5 AM, I simply said, “Lesson learned?  March off to bed and we'll talk about this after we have both had some sleep.”

As much as I wanted to be angry and “blaze up against them” I just couldn't…I was too happy to have them back, hopefully more aware of what is NOT good behavior for the future. Fortunately, they rarely needed more than one experience to learn what was unacceptable behavior and upsetting to their Mom.

Jesus, Brother, Friend. You knew moments of frustration and anger in your life. Help me recognize when I need a "time out" to approach challenges with a serenity I do not feel.  Open my ears to hear the voice of reason and calm that you offer me in my moments of fear, times when I feel overwhelmed.  May you be praised always and forever! Amen.
