Today's Scripture Passage: I Corinthians 12:4-6
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Many times we get so set in ourselves and in our patterns that we forget or even take for granted the little subtle gifts we are presented every day. Like our children running to us every morning with a hug and a kiss when they get up or the neighbor who you’d regularly pass and because your schedule changed, you don’t pass every morning anymore – knocking on your door saying “I haven’t seen you lately and just wanted to check on you”. Or something as simple as a sincere warm hello from someone you pass on the street and the smile it provokes as you remain in step. All of these, gifts, costing nothing more than a few moments in time, but leaving a memorable impression and added perk to our day. How easily we acclimate to those gifts and because they are for the most part standard due to their consistency, we forget how we felt the first time we experienced it and the effect of that gift somehow blends into the mundane though the intent, as it presented itself originally, has not. It should not take the removal of that gift to bring us to the realization of the importance of the receipt of what we are gifted every day. All, in its simplest form, a present consideration of care for you. The blessing is in the reciprocation and sharing of the gifts we are given keeping alive the present that we’ve been granted.
