Today's Scripture Passage: II Peter 1:1-10
1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,
Today's Scripture Message:
As a new year approaches, as well as a renewed since of personal responsibility, we begin making our resolutions for improvement. We say what we’d like to do and many times forget the commitment we’d made for self improvement as it is swept up in the dust of our daily routines. Every day presents an opportunity to take a step forward. Every minute the opportunity to make a sound decision. Every second the opportunity to do something differently to obtain that desired result. We have become as a whole people of immediate gratification where the damages our lives have seen did not occur overnight yet we expect the resolution at a seconds notice and because you cannot physically see an immediate effect, you turn away or give up. Your motion is always upward, remain focused, press on and see it through to your breakthrough…learning, loving, sharing and enjoying living as you continue forward.
Prayer for the Day:
Father, giving honor and praise to you ask according to your word, that you “add to my faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if I possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep me from being ineffective and unproductive in my knowledge of my Lord Jesus Christ…that I never forget that I have been cleansed from my past sins and make every effort to confirm my calling and election knowing if I do these things, I will never stumble. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thought for the Day:
“All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.”
– Anatole France
