It Is Well With My Soul

 Today's Scripture Passage: Isaiah 66:12-14

12 For this is what the LORD says: "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.
13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem." 14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the LORD will be made known to his servants, but his fury will be shown to his foes.

Today’s Scripture Message:

Growing up, we sang the song, It Is Well With My Soul by Horatio
G. Spafford, which begins: “When peace, like a river, attendeth my
way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou
hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.”  These
were powerful lyrics until I heard the story behind the lyrics of this
song a few weeks ago which really caused each part of this song to
resonate stronger than it had previous to my knowing the heart behind
the words. So I had to share it with all of you.  Mr. Spafford had a
successful law practice in Chicago where he and his wife Anna shared
their home with many. They led a charmed life and were faithful
Christians. In 1870 their 4 year old son died of scarlet fever…in 1871
the Great Chicago Fire destroyed most of the additional real estate the
family owned, but their home was spared as was their family.  Even
though their finances were mostly depleted they used their resources to
feed others and help the homeless who’d lost their homes and comforted
their grief stricken neighbors who’d lost loved ones. In 1873 Anna
became ill and hoping to benefit her health, the Spafford’s planned a trip
to Europe with their 4 daughters. On the day they were to leave via ship,
Mr. Spafford had a business emergency and could not leave. Not wanting
to disappoint his wife and children he sent them ahead and would follow a
few days later. The ship his family was on was hit by a British sailing ship
and the boat his wife and children were on sank in the middle of the
Atlantic Ocean. His wife Anna survived, their 4 daughters did not. After
hearing the news of his family’s demise, he immediately left to bring his wife
home. As he sailed past the point where the ship his family was on sunk, he
began writing the words to this song “It Is Well With My Soul”. The Safford’s
went on to begin a Christian colony in Jerusalem that catered to the needy
and cared for homeless children. Despite their great loss, they went on to do
greater things.  (full story) http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/850395/horatio_g_spafford_the_story behind.html?cat=38
Every day of our lives we face challenges and though many of them present pain
and sorrow, we are purposed for greater things. All that you experience is
knowledge and growth for the greatness purposed for your life. No matter what,
“Whatever our lot” in life…our Father “has taught” us “to say, it is well,
it is well with” our “soul”.

 Thought for the Day:

“Human beings are of such nature that they should have not only material facilities but spiritual sustenance as well. Without spiritual sustenance, it is difficult to get and maintain peace of mind.”
 Dalai Lama
Goal for the Day:
Find peace and sustenance in the promises of the Word of God.

A simple thought that has come to mind today. I truly must share with you; it took me hours to make the flow come correctly…so live your best life. It’s another day & we still reach out for solitude in every conversation we have daily. Why? When the decision has already been made…keep the strength to be strong & know that it will pass.
